Homopolymer Acetal or Delrin is the perfect plastic for turning on a CNC lathe lathe. It is pretty easy to turn, however it does require reduced speeds. I use this plastic to make Scottish small pipes chanters. I have purchased numerous items from iPlastic. Small pieces always ship promptly and everything was well packed. I have never had a problem with an order.
Between the Delrin and Acetal rods, both materials are quite durable and easily machinable, and they have comparable physical properties. They do appear similar, but in practical use there are a few differences that may make one preferable than the other. It also depends heavily on your application. As with any plastic materials, be sure to check the typical properties data sheet for the appropriate properties you may need for your application.
Our Acetal Sheet is definitely our primary material for machining,as it gives an nice finish both on manual and CNC Machines. Its got a very low moisture absorption making it the ideal grade for food contact and where the dimensional stability is important. Acetal Sheet has the perfect combination of high mechanical strength, durability and strength, giving it outstanding sliding properties, electrical insulation, and wear resistance.
Acetal Sheet has countless uses and is especially valued in the food preparation industry. Because of its low moisture absorption it gained Food & Drug Administration approval and its excellent sliding abilities which help with very low friction and hard wearing food safe components.
Acetal Sheets are of the engineering plastics chosen within the automotive industry because of its long term dimensional stability and durability. It offers solutions for designers to help them create long lasting and very durable components. Another popular area for Acetal is in water applications. This environment suits acetal well because the low moisture absorption will result in components that won’t expand or alter dimensions due to contact with water.

Our Acetal Sheet is probably our best material for machining, giving an excellent finish both on manual and CNC Machines. It has a very low moisture absorption making it the preferred grade for food contact and where the dimensional stability is important. Acetal Sheet has the perfect combination of high mechanical strength, hardness and toughness, giving it superb sliding properties, electrical insulation, and wear resistance.
Acetal Sheet has numerous applications and is especially of value in the food preparation industry. Because of its low moisture absorption it helped it to achieve Food & Drug Administration approval and its superb sliding abilities which aid with very low friction and hard wearing food safe components.
Acetal Sheet stock, perhaps the best of the plastics chosen within the automotive industry because of its long lasting dimensional stability and durability. It offers solutions for designers to help them create long lasting and very durable components. Another popular area for sheet Acetal is in marine applications. This environment suits acetal well because its low moisture absorption results in components that will not expand or change dimensions due to contact with water.
